Rujak Cireng - Indonesian Street Food
Cireng is another popular Indonesian street food snack made from tapioca flour, similar to cilok but with a different shape and texture. Here's a simple recipe to make cireng at home:

Ingredients:
For Cireng:
- 1 cup tapioca flour
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 green onions, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground white pepper
- Oil for frying
For Peanut Sauce (optional, similar to cilok recipe):
- 1 cup roasted peanuts, finely ground
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 red chilies, finely chopped (adjust to taste)
- 2 tablespoons palm sugar or brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon tamarind paste
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup water
- 2 tablespoons sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
- Oil for sautéing
Instructions:
Making Cireng:
In a mixing bowl, combine tapioca flour, all-purpose flour, minced garlic, chopped green onions, salt, and white pepper.
Gradually add water while stirring until a smooth and elastic dough forms. If the dough is too dry, add a little more water. If it's too wet, add a bit more tapioca flour.
Divide the dough into small portions and roll each portion into a cylindrical shape, about the size of your index finger.
Heat oil in a deep frying pan or pot over medium heat.
Once the oil is hot, carefully add the rolled dough into the hot oil. Fry the cireng in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan.
Fry the cireng until they are golden brown and crispy on the outside, about 4-5 minutes. Remove them from the oil using a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Making Peanut Sauce (optional, similar to cilok recipe):
Follow the same instructions as in the cilok recipe to make the peanut sauce. You can adjust the spiciness and sweetness according to your taste preferences.
Serving:
Serve the crispy fried cireng hot with or without peanut sauce on the side for dipping.
Enjoy your homemade cireng as a delicious snack or appetizer!
Cireng is best enjoyed fresh and hot, but you can also store any leftovers in an airtight container and reheat them in the oven for a few minutes to regain their crispiness.
